After many years working for other wineries, including his family's estate in the Loire, Anthony Girard took the plunge and struck out on his own, purchasing an estate in the hamlet of Récy, with vineyards in both Sancerre and Menetou-Salon. The large key on the label represents one that he was given upon purchasing the property, and the name "La Clef du Récit," was born.
Girard lavishes plenty of time in the vineyards yet guides rather than dominates the process of growing grapes, letting nature take the lead. The result: beautiful, expressive wines that deftly balance ripe fruit characters, acidity, and terroir.
Today's wine is sourced from grapes grown in soils rich with a type of limestone known as "caillote" which gives the wine freshness and flinty minerality. These characters beautifully complement the wine's pink grapefruit, lemon peel, and gooseberry flavors. Vibrant acidity brings the wine to a long finish and begs you to take another sip.
